FARMING: For many years the month of February would see farmers out in their fields ploughing the land in preparation for sowing and planting the crops. Most of this work was carried out by horses and ploughs but March 1939 saw major changes when on a dark Spring evening two tractors complete with massive lights were observed ploughing in the townsland of Kilmainham which saw dozens of onlookers and almost disbelief among the community. In recent times there has been only a limited amount of tillage in this district and present indications suggest that in this regard this trend will continue.
