The 2012 County Longford Community Games Area Participation Awards were presented last week. Ardagh/Moydow/Glen was thrilled to win 2nd place overall, an excellent achievement! The award was accepted on behalf of all the children and adult volunteers in our parish Ardagh/Moydow/Glen who really outdid themselves over the last year, trying so many new events and giving such a big commitment to the weekly youth club. The great combination of new ideas and enthusiasm will help us continue this success as the new programme of events for 2013 gets started. AMG Community Games Youth Club restarting Friday 28 Sept in Ardagh Community Centre. All children from 2nd Class and up will be welcome to come play chess, draughts, badminton and table tennis. Parents encouraged to lend a hand any week that they are available. Further details to follow next week.

Wedding: The marriage took place on Friday 7th September in St. Brigid’s Church of Elaine Kelly Glen and Garry Kirby Dublin. The celebrant was Fr. Pat Lennon. Elaine’s bridesmaids were her sisters Linda and Annmarie, Garry’s best man was Brendan Kirby and groomsman Paul McCabe. The reception was held in The Park Hotel Mullingar. Congratulations to Elaine and Garry and may you enjoy a long and happy life together.

Wedding: On Friday last in St. Joseph’s Church Drumkilly Cavan the marriage took place of Gerard Gill Ardbohill and Rosemary Lynch Cavan. The ceremony was performed by Fr Michael Quinn, Fr Paddy Brady and Monsignor P.J. McManus. Bridesmaids were Elizabeth, Ann and Mary Lynch and Yvonne Coughlan. Gerard’s Best Man and Grooms Men were his brothers Peter Trevor Lloyd and Robert. Pageboy was Lorcan Lynch and Flowergirl Sarah Gill. The reception was held in The Kilmore Hotel Cavan. Congratulations are extended to Gerard and Rosemary and may they enjoy a life of health and happiness.

Winners: Congratulations to our neighbours Abbeyshrule on winning the All Ireland in the Tidy Towns and the Gold in Entente Floral. A very deserving win, and a great reward for all the hard work.

Hospice: Please support coffee morning for County Longford Hospice in Ardagh Heritage Centre on Thursday 20th September from 9.30 to 12.

Health Fair: Longford Branch of Arthritis Ireland are hosting a Health Fair on Sat Sept 22nd, in Temperance Hall Longford 11am to 4pm. Admission is free. Healthcare professionals attending are Chiropractor, Reflexologist, Bi-Aura Healing, Physiotherapist, Chiropodist, Therapeutic Hand Massage, and more. There will be Information Booklets on all forms of Arthritis for all age groups and information on courses and programmes being organised by Arthritis Ireland. A Fittlesticks Walking Programme (using Nordic Poles) Demonstration will take place at 12.30 and 2pm. Harvest Thanksgiving Services: In September and October, the following Harvest Thanksgiving Services will be held in the Ardagh Church of Ireland group of Parishes to give thanks to Almighty God for the great blessings of Harvest time and for God’s unfailing providence throughout the years. Sunday September 30th in Tashinny Church at 3pm. Sunday October 14th in Kenagh Church at 3pm. There will be a guest preacher at each service, which will be followed by tea in the hall. Everyone is welcome to the service and the refreshments. In the words of the well known Harvest Hymn “Come ye thankful people, come Raise the song of Harvest home.

Bereavement: Sympathy is extended to Rita Farrell and family Barneygole on the death of her father Brian Grant. May he rest in peace.

German and French: German and French classes for adults and secondary school children begin next Wednesday 26th September in Ardagh Hertitage and Creativity Centre. German from 5.30 to 6.15pm, €8 per person. French from 6.30 to 7.15pm €8 per person. Also German Club for children starting on Saturday 29th September from 11am to 12pm, €7 per person.
