TIDY TOWNS

As you travel through our beautiful village you will see all the great work that Dromod tidy town committee have done in recent weeks, the allotments and landscaping beside the Garda station, the wall painting across the road from there, the wooden fencing and landscaping on either side of the railway bridge, the lovely flower-beds, the great trimming of hedging and the way the grass is kept. This enhances the village greatly, so take a bow T P and all your workers for a job very well done.

SLIMATHON

Bornacoola Youth Club Slimathon final weigh in was last Tuesday and the party night was in the Copper Still on Friday last, we will have full details in next week’s notes.

PRESCHOOL

Naionra Pògini Grèine Dromod is an Irish Speaking preschool service. All activities Are carried out through the medium of Irish so the children can hear and learn the language, music etc all in a very relaxed setting. For further information contact Yvonne on 086 0718105.

We would like to offer our condolences to Gerard and Mary Mulligan and their family, Rooskeynamona on the death of Mary’s father Patrick Brady, Edenmore, Ballinmuck, Co. Longford who died at his home on Friday last. Patrick was laid to rest in Aughnacliffe cemetery on Sunday last. May he Rest in Peace.

PIG ON A STICK

Kilglass Gaels are hosting a “Pig on the stick” on Sunday 26 June at 4pm.at club-grounds.

The pig will be roasted by a professional chef and food served hot. Live music on the day with local musicians along with Gay Cassidy dancers and special guests Sean Nos an tSionnain The day will conclude with music by Marty and Hammer at 9pm. approx. Admission €5 with full bar. All are welcome

SILVER JUBILEE

We extend our congratulations to Fr. John Leogue son of the late Joseph and Maura nee Diffley. John is Parish Priest of Athleague and Furety in Co Roscommon also to Fr Thomas Healey son of Rutledge and May. Tom is Administrator in St Mel’s Longford. Both John and Tom celebrate their silver jubilee this month. We wish you both many more years of ministry in the priesthood.

We would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Josephine Rowley, (née Flynn) of Drumcree, Annaduff, who died on Tuesday May 24th at St Patrick’s Hospital Carrick on Shannon in her 99th year. Josephine was laid to rest in Annaduff Cemetery on Thursday May 26th. May she Rest in Peace.

FIELD DAY

Modified Pro Stock and Super Farm Tractors appearing on the day. New this year is The Midget Car Racing Championship in association with Motor Sport Ireland. This short has not been in the Midland in the past 25 years.

BORNACOOLA GAA

Bornacoola seniors travelled to Drumreilly on Saturday evening last in shield fixture. The game finished with a win for Bornacoola on a scoreline of Bornacoola 2.08 Drumreilly 0.09. The Girls played their second and final Shield game against Division 1 side St Mary’s on Dromod on Sunday morning last and recorded an excellent 1-05 to 1-04 victory. Their next game is the final League Division 2 fixture against Annaduff which will take place on Saturday week June 18 in Dromod. Team: Michelle Reilly, Rachel Duignan, Niamh Reynolds, Maeve Duffy, Sarah Duffy, Shannon Boyle, Jillian Duignan, Allison McKeon, Leonie Duffy (0-1), Kelly Howard (0-3), Fiona Reilly (1-0), Sheena Faughnan (0-1), Michelle O Beirne, Tanya Donnelly. Monday saw our Div 5 team travel to St Mary’s for a league encounter check results for details of this game.

Bornacoola gaa Scrap Collection

Bornacoola are collecting scrap metal, old cars, farm machines, tractors, steel, washing machines, dishwashers, copper, brass, stainless steel, scrap electric cables, lead, batteries, engines, electric motors etc. First day of collection was last Saturday and proved to be very successful so a member of the club will call to all the houses in the parish in the coming weeks and will arrange for any unwanted metal goods to be collected.

ALL IRELAND DRAW

Bornacoola are holding a draw in conjunction with the All Ireland football final. Envelopes will be on sale with four random times in them, the purchaser will put their name on the envelope and the times inside are his or hers time of which the first goal might be scored in the All Ireland final in the event of no goals being scored the “no goal” ticket will win. The lucky winner will pocket €500. Envelopes are on sale from any club member at a cost of €5.

The monthly Bornacoola gaa club draw took place in the Copper Still on Sunday night last. Music was by Feargal Harmon. Winners were as follows €100 Gerry McGowan. €20 each Seamus Duignan, Dympna Moffatt, Robert Dobson, Dave O’Neill and Margaret McGowan. Thanks to all who supported.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

We extend our congratulations down under to Mark and Orla Harrington (nee Duignan from Cloonturk) who celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary last weekend. Orla and Mark were all ready for a weekend away to celebrate their anniversary when in walked brother Brendan all the way from Cloonturk to their delight and surprise, weekend away postponed, Digger and family arrived and a great time was had by on and all.

ENGAGED

We extend our congratulations to Annaduff footballer Colm Cox, Anfield and Miss Edel Shanley, Drumard who announced their engagement last week another great Bornacoola/ Annaduff union. We wish you many years of health and happiness for the future.

ANNADUFF GAA

In the Shield competition Annaduff beat Aughnasheelin by 3.11 to 1.12 this game was played in Annaduff on Friday. The engagement did the trick for Colm Cox who scored a hat trick. In Division 4, Annaduff were beaten by Dromahair by 3.11 to 1.06.

We extend birthday greetings to some locals starting with the youngest Michael Hanley from Cloonturk who celebrated his 1st birthday last week and to Susie Shanley who celebrated her birthday on Friday last also to local Taxi man Enda Lyons who celebrated his 40th with family and friends in Cox’s Dromod on Friday last next is John Keenan, Cloonart who reached a milestone in his life recently, John partied with family and friends in Longford’s “Sin Bin” with Colm Mulligan at the mic. and finally to Mrs Annie Duffy, Cloonmorris, Bornacoola who celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday last. Annie is in the finest of fettle and attends daily Mass in Bornacoola. We wish you all many years of health and happiness.
