We appeal to all in the area to be conscious of judging in tidy towns competition. Residents are requested to look after their area by keeping weeds under control, hedges trimmed and fences or gates that may need painting.


The annual Abbeylara tractor pulling and field day will take place on Sunday 12th June. On what is always a very enjoyable family day out there will be a truck pulling demonstration. On display on the day will be Modified Pro stock and super farm tractors with the already mentioned truck pulling demonstration thus truly earning the day it’s reputation as ‘’ Ireland’s most powerful motor sport’’. All interested are welcome to enter tractors for separate tractor pulling competition for which valuable prizes are on offer. Only those weighed in can participate under the three separate weight categories of 5.5 tonne, 7.5 tonne and 11.00 tonnes. Please note that weigh in is at 9.30a.m sharp. A vintage parade and display will include American cars, autojumble, trucks , tractors and motor bikes.

The organising committee has added an extra event to this year’s show that has not been around the midlands for twenty five years. It is midget car racing in association with Motor Sport Ireland and no doubt will prove popular for anybody with an enthusiasm for that type of sport.

As usual there will plenty of activities and entertainment for the children such as bumping cars, bouncing castles, goat cart rides with Freddie the Goat and lots more.

A new computer skills class is starting in Granard Branch Library on Wednesday June 15th . This is covering Uploading photos, file management, internet banking, motor tax, Skype, touch-typing, word and excel 2007, facebook, twitter and first time introduction to a computer.
