VERY REGRETTED DEATH
There was widespread regret in the Carrigallen parish and surrounding ones at the recent death of Mr William Hawthorn (Snr) Aughavilla House Carrigallen and Longford which has occurred at Cavan General Hospital following a brief illness. Bill as he was so popularly known to his many friends was a native of Longford came to Carrigallen parish with his wife and young family almost 40 ye
ars ago when he purchased the Aughavilla House and farm from the late James Flynn who was retiring from farming. He became very popular with all the local people and was always on hand to lend a helping hand to one in need. And as his family became able to run the family farm . Bill returned to Longford and set up a thriving business in haulage and coal and briquettes merchant and on his retirement from the business he lived with his daughter Sandra and was a caller to the local day centre Carrigallen where he became very popular with all the people present indeed the both areas are much the poorer for his passing. May he RIP. Sympathy is extended to his daughter Sandra Derralane son in law & grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife and son Bill (J).The removal of remains and funeral from Saint Columbas Church of Ireland Corrawallen was very large and representative. Burial took place in Saint John’s Cemetery Longford.

THE PITCH AT
THE CORN MILL
The Moth presents The Pitch written by Shane Connaughton and directed by Kerry Crabbe in the Corn Mill Theatre Carrigallen on Friday 10 June 2011. Starring Shane Connaughton Fiona Fitzpatrick and Niall Lynch. Philly lived and played for his team, the jersey, the parish, his friends – the very pitch his enemies are now trying to take from him to turn into a housing estate. Like Philoctetes abandoned by his comrades as they go off to fight the Trojan war, Philly is tormented by painful memories and the unjust fate that holds him prisoner as he replays the events of that day when his club won the county championship for the one and only time and he wasn’t allowed to play. Accused of fathering an illegitimate child and now threatened with retirement to a nursing home, he holds tight to the memory of the Herculean feats of his youth- and to the land on which these dramas unfolded. For him the old pitch is sacred ground and it is here that he will make his last stand. Doors open at 8pm and show starts at 8.30pm. Booking at 04943 39612 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
