Granard Show - There will be a very important meeting of the Granard Agricultural Show Society on Wednesday 30 March at 9.30pm in John V. Donohoe’s Lounge.
The show has been successfully taking place for the past 60 years and there is a doubt this year that due to insurance problems the show may not go ahead. The committee are requesting all local businesses and everyone who is interested in maintaining the show to please attend.
Granard Country Markets trade each Friday morning from 8.30am to 1.00am with the usual supply of fresh produce and goodies. A special raffle for Mother’s Day Cake will be held on this Friday 1 April.
The next monthly meeting of Granard I.C.A. guild will take place in the Credit Union meeting room on Thursday next 7 April at 8.00pm. A guest speaker from Simon Community will address the guild members on the activities of the organisation. All members are requested to attend and new members are always very welcome.
On this Saturday night 2 April Killeen / Bunlahy Community Group will launch their Vintage and Static Show in Creegan’s of Bunlahy with a host of Irish music. All local and visiting musicians are welcome and this promises to be a great night out with refreshments served and the usual raffle will be held. The Vintage and Static Show will take place on Easter Sunday on the farm of John Joe and Anne Marie Reilly and family at Kilcourcey, Edgeworthstown and the committee look forward to a great day with a bigger and better show this year.
Men’s Social Club
The next meeting of Granard Men’s Social Club will take place on Tuesday 5 April in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre at 12 noon. Current activities include Wood Craft; Composting and a number of interesting activities are planned for future meetings. For more information contact Lucy at 6686309.

The Moatsiders Active Age Group had a glorious day for their trip to Birr Castle on Thursday last. 27 members and friends travelled on the outing that finished up with dinner in the Hudson Bay Hotel Athlone. Thanks to Jackie and the organising committee who co-ordinated a perfect day’s outing.
Granard Credit Union will be celebrating 30 years in business in May with the sub office in Gowna celebrating 25 years in business in May also. We would like to remind all our members of our opening hours which are Tuesday to Saturday 10 to 5pm. Loch Gowna Office Saturday nights 6 to 7.30. Why not call in and see what we have to offer in relation to Loans/Savings. Always remember to keep your account in credit for our member’s draw which is held quarterly with lots of valuable prizes on offer.
Bingo takes place each Wednesday night at 9.00pm (please note change of time for Summer months) in the Community Centre Granard. The Jackpot this week is €7400. Proceeds from the night go to Abbeylara and Granard GAA. Your continued support is appreciated.

St. Joseph’s Society
St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society are holding a meeting on 31 March in the Community Centre Barrack Street Granard at 8.00pm. New members welcome. The society was founded in 1895 to help and assist in the education of students for the priesthood by prayer and financial support.
On Wednesday mornings in Granard Brach Library a FAS eLearning Online Programme takes place. Computer courses for beginners and also a number of online courses available. This is free and the next set of 10 week courses will commence on 6 April. The Committee of Granard Community Childcare Facility would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Longford Harriers for their wonderful generosity and entertainment on Sunday 20 March at the fancy dress charity ride and Donkey Derby.
