Since our General Election we are very lucky to have 3 TD’s in our area, living in a radius of 5 miles of one another. As we all know living in a rural part of the midlands this is a great achievement. Congratulations to James Bannon Fine Gael TD, who lives over in Legan, Co. Longford. Next to congratulate in his new role as Minister is Willie Penrose our Labour TD who lives in Ballinacargy, Co.Westmeath. Willie is our Minister of State, Department of Environment, Community & Local Government with responsibility for Housing & Planning. We wish Willie well in his new role and know that this is a huge task with all the ghost estates throughout the country and derelict sites. Next is our local Councillor now TD Robert Troy, Ballynacargy, Co. Westmeath. This is Robert’s first time as a TD, but he is no stranger to politics, as he was the youngest member of Westmeath Co. Council when he was elected in 2004. Robert is involved in many local groups & committees, and has been a good County Councillor to Rathowen, but his shoes are to be filled by local girl Niamh Kiernan, who was co-opted on to the Council to fill Robert’s seat. Niamh is the owner of Waddlers & Toddlers Crèche and pre-school in Winetown. Niamh lives in Edgeworthstown and she is looking forward to her new role as County Councillor. Niamh has very big shoes to fill and we wish her well in her new role.
