Violet was a very caring unassuming lady who loved her family and many friends. She came to Mohill as a young girl to serve her time in ‘Gipsons Drapery and when Gipsons closed she and her sister Anna had a drapery store on Lr Main Street where they had many customers who loved shopping with them. She was a brilliant badminton player and together with her late husband Ted attended many games . Violet was a very active member of the local community where she will be fondly remembered but sadly missed. Her funeral service was held in St Marys Church Mohill on Sunday last and was representative of all sections of the community who came to pay their final respects. Our sympathies are with her son Cecil, daughter daughter in law Hazel ,son in law William grandchildren, sisters Susie and Anna and their extended family. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
THOMAS CANNING: On Sunday 29th April Thomas Canning Towneymore Mohill died in the tender care of the Doctors nurses and staff at the Laurel Lodge Nursing home Longford. Tom as he was most affectionately known was a great family man, a most obliging neighbour and loyal friend. Sadly he was predeceased by his wife Teresa some years ago. RIP. Remembering back the years when he was supervisor with the council he was held in the highest esteem by all his workmates who remember his wit and good humour and his great love of gardening and music. The very large attendance at his removal to St Patricks Church and again at his concelebrated Mass was testimony to the high esteem in which he and his family were held in the community and to whom we offer our deepest sympathy. May he rest in peace.
