COUNTRY MARKETS: Granard Country Markets will hold the last market for 2011 on this Wednesday 21 December from 8.30am to 11.00am. The market will re-open again on 13 January 2012. We wish all our customers and friends a very Happy Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing you all in 2012.
SOLEMN NOVENA: The Novena concludes on this Wednesday evening 21 December in St. Mary’s Church Granard at 7.30p.m. This Novena is a time for reflection petition praise and thanksgiving.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT: On Wednesday 28 December a little bit of Christmas magic will take place in Streete Parish Park. Preparations are well under way for a Christmas themed variety concert featuring a host of talented artists. So why not take time out during this busy Christmas season to relax, listen, laugh and enjoy the Magic of Christmas. The concert starts at 7:30 p .m. All proceeds go towards the renovations of St. Mary’s Church Boherquill. Hope to see you all there.
PITCH AND PUTT: We had no Turkey competition last Sunday as the grass was frozen and this was our last competition for 2011. The club would like to thank all of our members for helping out and doing work at the course for the past year. Thanks also to Granard Area Action Group Community Employment workers for their excellent maintenance work carried out on the facility in the during the year. Thanks to all who gave generous sponsorship for the various competitions. We would like to thank all the above sincerely and wish each and everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year Competitions will start again in early 2012. The AGM of the club of took place on 14 December. A full report will follow later.
LUS NA GREINE CHRISTMAS GREETINGS: The Voluntary Management Committee and Staff of the centre wish each and every person in the community a very Happy Christmas & Peaceful New Year. We also wish all those who are ill at present a speedy recovery. To those who have been bereaved during the year we send our condolences’. Finally our sincere thanks to one and all for your support during 2011 and we look ahead with great pleasure to serving our community in a prosperous and action packed 2012.
FIRESIDE TALES: The newest edition of Fireside Tales by Jude Flynn in now on sale in local Newsagents at €20.00. This is the Ninth in the series of Fireside Tales and the book makes very interesting reading with interviews by people all over Co. Longford and further afield. This will make an ideal Christmas present for family and friends at home and away.
FUNDRAISER: LHF Supplies Granard are running a fundraiser for all National Schools in the local areas. The fundraiser is two fold it will support 2 local ladies who have recently set up in business. Every Holly Wreath sold €3 of the sale price will be donated back to the school nominated at time of purchase. Wreaths are priced at €12.95 so the more units sold the more money you can raise for your school. Wreaths on sale until 24 December.
RATH MHUIRE AND DOLMEN SERVICES LTD: We have come to the end of another very busy but most enjoyable and successful year. Indeed, this was a very special year, as the Centre was celebrating its 25th Anniversary and we would like once again to take this opportunity to thank all the community which came out in large numbers to join with us in celebrating this very special occasion. All of the groups which we support – Moatsider’s Active Age; Granard Men’s Social Club; Granard Writer’s Group; Dolmen Failte Club; Dolmen Daycare Facilities and the North Longford Men’s Group have participated in a vast range of activities which they always carry out with a great sense of enthusiasm dedication and commitment. We would also like to extend our thanks to our Board of Directors Staff Members, the HSE, Co. Longford VEC, Co. Longford Rural Transport, Granard Area Action Group C.E. participants and many other agencies and individuals whom we have worked with for their continued dedicated support. Co LONGFORD RURAL TRANSPORT: Longford Community Resources Ltd (LCRL) are delighted with the announcement in the recent Budget that the Rural Transport Programme will be continued in 2012, even with a slightly reduced Budget. This is great news and indeed a relief for all the Passengers who use the Service, many thanks to them and to all the stakeholders who have supported and indeed campaigned for the continuation of the Programme throughout the year. Timetable: All routes for 2011 will be completed on Friday 23rd December. Services for 2012 will resume on Tuesday 3rd January. Longford Community Resources would like to wish All Passengers and everyone who supports the Rural Transport Programme “A Very Happy and Peaceful Christmas and Good Wishes for the New Year”.
RECENT DEATHS: The death of Anna Byrne (nee Daly) ex N.T. Riverbank Killanny Carrickmacross occurred last week. Anna was a native of Granard and taught in local schools including Springtown Abbeylara and Bunlahy before moving to Co. Louth. Her funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday morning in St. Enda’s Church Kilanny last followed by burial in adjoining cemetery. Sympathy is extended to her husband John sons daughters brother Martin sister Teresa and extended family. May she rest in peace.
