Gortletteragh

Great Dancing Spectacle : The grand finale of the Strictly Come Dancing took place in Lough Rynn Castle Hotel on Friday night last and a packed house was treated to one of the best night’s entertainment this lovely venue or any other venue in this area has ever seen. All our dancers gave a majestic performance - let it be in the group dance or as couples and not one of them put a foot wrong. For a group of people who came together only seven weeks ago, and for some of them, their first time to meet - great credit is due to each and everyone of them and to choreographer Trish Mc Dermott, who since her first meeting on Monday 22nd August at 8pm in the community centre, have put in many hours training collectively up to three times weekly and many more hours individually. They were all in position in Rynn Castle on Friday night at 6pm - first couple went on stage at 9pm - the last couple after 11pm and each of them acted and behaved impeccably .They were all winners on the night but as in all sport / entertainment some one has to come out on top and on this occasion the spoils went to Derek Kelleher and Samantha Harte whom we congratulate. The dancers finished their performance on stage the way they started - with a group dance and finally they all circled Derek and Samantha who performed their winning act once again. Gortletteragh G.A.A will be indebted to this brilliant group of dancers for ever more. The Looney Hoppers finished off the night as only they can with a brilliant performance that kept the crowd going. We would like to thank the twenty dancers and Trisha who in seven weeks turned our performers from amateur status into professionals and they need not be afraid to take the stage anywhere or in any company. Thanks to the following: Deirdre McNulty - hair do; Mandy Egan – makeup; Eugene Murphy MC; Judges : Trisha Mc Dermott, Grace Kearney and Pauric Davis; Sean Costello - Stage, Gerry Conboy - sound / lighting; Brian Blake - Mark Heslin video / projection; Declan Gaffney – photography; Lough Rynn Castle Hotel for putting their famous venue at our disposal - not alone for the night but for the rehearsal etc. A special thanks to Kieran and Ruth who waited on us hand and foot. Again thanks to all our sponsors who really gave us lift off seven weeks ago and they will all be named in this column in the coming weeks. To the Leitrim Observer, Longford Leader and Shannon Side Radio for their coverage. Finally to all you people who bought tickets from the dancers and who purchased tickets at the main entrance on the night - a very very sincere thanks from all at Gortletteragh G.A.A. - P.S. watch this space for a very important announcement from our dance team in the coming week. Check out Cissie Bohan’s poem to her dancing partner Enda Stenson on page 6 of this week’s Leader.
