PETER CURRAN RIP: It was with deepest regret that we learnt of the death on October 5th 2011 of Mr Peter Curran Lissoy, The pigeons at 84yrs, formerly the Inny Bar Ballymahon in the loving care of the nurses and staff at Thomand Lodge Nursing Home Ballymahon. Peter who could be described as a thorough gentleman came to Ballymahon as a young man from his native Aughavas in Leitrim and worked in Walsh’s pub for a while. In 1960 he bought carters pub beside the Bridge in Ballymahon and spent the next 41 year running a very successful pub business with his wife Nora and their family. Lots of people in the area will remember so many good nights in Peters pub where so many functions were held down the years. Many of these functions were fundraisers for the local hurling club, football clubs and many other organisations. Peter and Nora were always very generous with sponsorship ,the lovely food on the various nights and of course the use of their premises. A good card player Peter always liked to join the groups who played 25 in the pub every Tuesday night where the craic was guaranteed. He also loved Irish and traditional music and many’s the good music session was held in the Inny Bar. Peter was a very popular publican and everyone missed him when he decided to sell his premises and retire,he was a man with a big heart and a big smile. In his spare time,Peter loved to fish on the River Inny beside him and also enjoyed going to the races occasionally and having the odd flutter in the local bookies. He was very involved with the Vintners Association down the years and used to look forward to their annual dinner dances. Peter was a very accomplished footballer in his day,he played with Carrickedmond and Ballymahon and loved going to watch his native county Leitrim play, he was so proud of them when they won the Connacht Championship. He was very involved with the local club here in town and went to most of their matches over the years. He will be sadly missed by his family relatives ,customers and many friends. A huge number of people came to pay their respects on hearing of Peters death at the nursing home and also to the removal of his remains to St Marys Church in Tang and at the funeral mass on Friday morning last. At the removal on Thursay evening last a guard of honour was formed for Peter by his friends at Ballymahon GAA club. We offer our deepest sympathy to Peters wife Nora, sons Paidh and Ger,daughter Mary, sister Bridget ,son in law Colm, daughters in law Maree, adored grandchildren Aoife Clara,Garrett and Michelle and all his relatives and friends. Peter’s remains were laid to rest at temple a valley Cemetery. In Iothlann De go gcastar sinn.
