ROAD RACE:Anticipation is building in both the athletics and local North Westmeath communities in preparation for the annual North Westmeath 5K Road Race, organised by the North Westmeath Athletics Club., which takes place on Wednesday, August 10th. The event is one of the highlights of the athletics calendar, and attracts paticipants from all over the country. The 5 kilometre route starts on Pakenhamhall Road, travels out to the historic and scenic Tullynally Castle, and returns to the finish line on the Pakenhamhall Road. A large field of entrants is anticipated in the nine categories of the main event, with cash prizes for winners. All race times will be computerised. Juvenile races for U.7 up to U.13 will take place on The Square from 7.00pm, with the main road race starting at 8.00pm, and which caters for participants of all abilities and levels, from elite athletes to those walking the course. Entry fee is 12 euro for seniors and 5 euro for juniors. Tea and refreshments will be served in McCormack’s, The Square, and shower and changing facilities will be available in Castlepollard GAA complex on the Pakenhamhall Road.
