GROW YOUR OWN

On Monday night next March 21st 2011 the local guild of ICA has organised a demonstration on growing your own vegetables on a raised bed, growing fruit and how to take care of fruit trees. We invite anyone from the community who is interested in growing even a small patch of vegetables to come along. It’s free and supper will be served afterwards. The demonstration will take place at 8.30pm in the GAA Clubhouse.

The annual fundraising Daffodil Day takes place all over the country on Friday 25th March 2011. Please support generously.

GAA LOTTO

Congratulations to James Nulty and Leah Gannon, winners of the GAA Lotto jackpot of 8650 euros last week in Mitchell’s, Legan. The numbers drawn were 2, 9, 23 and 30. Match three winners of 50 euros each were Caroline Nugent and Jerry Nugent. This week’s jackpot started off again at 1000 euros with the draw held place in Connuaghton’s, Rathowen, results of which will be published next week.

MASS TIMES

Mass will be celebrated for St Patrick’s Day on Thursday 17th March 2011 in St Anne’s Church, Ballycloghan at 10.00am and in St Mary’s Church, Legan at 11.30am.

SCOR

Well done to Liam Butler who contested the Leinster Scor Final in Recitation on Sunday last 13th March 2011 in Ballymore, Co Westmeath. Unfortunately on this occasion he did not advance to the All-Ireland Final but not to worry as we know Liam will yet again achieve this honour in the near future.

Congratulations to Eilis McLoughlin, Croshea who was successful in progressing to the All-Ireland Scor Final in Solo Singing.

FARM ACCOUNTS

A Farm Accounts and Taxation Course will be held in the Old Schoolhouse, Ballymahon Road, Edgeworthstown in the coming weeks. The Course is aimed at helping farmers prepare computerised farm records and gain an understanding of Basic Farm Taxation. The main objective of the course is to help farmers plan their business and tax more efficiently. The Course will be run over four nights with the initial two nights in March and the remainder in November. For further details contact 087-2478835.

DEATHS

The death took place last week of Liam Flood, Arklow and formerly of Agharra after a long illness. To his wife and family, brothers Kevin,of Agharra ,and John, sister Kathleen, relatives and friends we extend our deepest sympathy. May he Rest in Peace.

We also wish to extend our sympathy to the relatives and friends of Marie Shanley, England and formerly of Clygeen who died recently. May she Rest in Peace.

DINNER DANCE

The 38th Annual Legan Sarsfields GAA Dinner Dance has been organised to take place in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on Saturday March 26th 2011. This year’s Dinner Dance has a particular significance as it commemorates the 30th anniversary of Legan Sarsfields’ winning of the County Intermediate Championship. Music on the night will be supplied by Dave and The Blue Tacks, after dinner, which will be served at 8.00pm sharp. Tickets are priced at 25 euros each and are on sale now; available from any committee member.
