GAA LOTTO

The first draw for all those people who have bought €100 Lottery Tickets takes place on Wed 16th March in Crawford’s Lounge. Tickets are still on sale around the parish and are available from any of the senior players, Loretta Lynch, Kevin Murphy, Pat McHugh, John Fay or Fr. Michael. All proceeds from these draws are going towards the day to day running of the Club and also the new development loan repayments. Membership of the draw entitles you to enter the Club’s weekly Lotto draw for a full year. This Lotto has now a jackpot of €11,000 thus making your purchase of the €100 ticket very much worth the outlay. Many thanks to those who have already joined the draw. Also sincere thanks to those who support the Lotto weekly by purchasing a weekly lotto ticket or more. We thank very much those who organise and run the Lotto each week. PARISH DRAW

The next draw takes place on Fri 18th March in Abbeylara at 8pm (after the 7.30 Mass). You are welcome to join us for the draw. Any monies due to the draw please hand in before then.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

We had a great morning on Thursday last at the Longford Sports Partnership where we played Badminton, Tai Chi, and Dancing; we also took part in the Gym for half an hour where we burned off some calories. We had lunch and then back home.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday next 16th March, looking forward to seeing you all there.

FIANNA FAIL AGM

Abbeylara Fianna Fail Cumman held their Annual General Meeting in the Handball Alley and Sports Complex Abbeylara on Friday night the 18th of February. Chairman of the Cumman Peter McIntyre thanked all who attended the meeting and special word of welcome to Deputy Peter Kelly TD., Cllr. P.J. Reilly, for their attendance. He also wished Deputy Peter Kelly all the best in the up and coming General Election on February the 25th.

Cllr. Reilly told the meeting that he hopes work will start on the new playground for the children in the area this summer and also extra public lighting for the village. He also thanked Deputy Kelly for his work in assuring funding in the past number of years for the Handball and Sports Complex in the village, GAA pitch and track at Oliver Lynch Park Ballyboy and for assuring of funding for extensions of classrooms for our two primary schools in the Parish of Abbeylara.

The following officers were elected for the coming year President’s Francie Sheridan and Pee Galligan, Chairman Peter McIntyre, Vice Chairman Pat Mc Hugh, Secretary Terry Burns, Treasurer Pat Kilbane and Fiona Reilly and P.R.O. Denis Fahy.

A vote of sympathy was passed for all Families in the area who had Bereavements during the year.

NOVENA

GAA MEMBERSHIP

Membership is now due. Rates €25 for individual €40 for couple €50 for players which includes membership and insurance. Please hand in your membership to any Club Officer. The yearly Lottery entry ticket for €100 is on sale now. This will give you entry into the Lotto each week from 16th March 2011 for 12 months, for a large weekly jackpot. The majority of households in the parish and elsewhere will be visited with these Lotto tickets. Your support would help Club Finances greatly and ease the need/pressure of other fundraisers. Abbeylara GAA Club will be holding their annual draw in Crawfords Lounge on Wednesday 16th March. This draw will consist of 5x€100. There will be music on the night. All are welcome.

FARM ACCOUNTS

A Farm Accounts and Taxation Course will be held in the Old Schoolhouse, Ballymahon Road, Edgeworthstown in the coming weeks.

The Course is aimed at helping farmers prepare computerised farm records and an understanding of Basic Farm Taxation. The main objective of the course is to help farmers plan their business and tax more efficiently.
