Donations collected for St Vincent de Paul were among many items stolen from St Mel’s College at the weekend.

Staff and pupils at the Longford town school were left reeling after laptops, projectors as well as donations the pupils had collected for St Vincent de Paul (SVP) were stolen during a robbery last Thursday night.

Gardaí believe that thecallous thieves forced open a window and gained access to the school, where they subsequently stole the items during the night.

It was one of a spate of burglaries throughout the county in the past week.

In Edgeworthstown, tools and equipment worth more than €20,000 were stolen from Kane’s Garage .

“They took a dry hoover, spray gun, Co2 welder, electric sanders, drills, polishers and a power saw,” the proprietor Alec Kane fumed to the Leader.

The Edgeworthstown businessman is now offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of the equipement. Anyone with information is asked to contact Alec Kane on (087) 2758836.
