Solicitor’s office among several properties targeted by thieves

A solicitor’s office in Longford town fell foul to a burglary last weekend, when €250 was taken from the business on November 30 last, which is located along Longford town’s Church Street.

Gardaí later apprehended a man who has since been charged in connection with the incident.

On the same day, a homeowner at Longford’s Harbour Row returned home to find two men in the house. Gardaí say that they men were in the process of carrying out a robbery at the premises and that once disturbed by the homeowner, “fled from the scene and out the back door of the property”.

Meanwhile, an investigation is currently under-way after 47 cylinders of bottled gas valued at €2,100 were stolen from Longford Motors, Strokestown Road on November 28 last. “We are currently viewing CCTV footage in respect of the matter and are carrying out a full investigation,” a garda spokesperson said.

In Granard, a parked car was broken into on November 29 and a substantial quantity of animal medication stolen during the incident.

Also in Granard, a theft occurred at JV Donoghue’s on November 26 last when thieves entered the premises and subsequently stole a chainsaw and five slabs of beer.

“They made off with the goods which were valued at €200 and jumped into a waiting car which was parked at the mart,” the garda spokesperson added. “Anyone with any information is asked to come forward – however we are examining CCTV footage at the moment and will continue with our investigations following that.”

Also last week, unsuspecting homeowners were alerted to the presence of a man in their hallway along Edgeworthstown’s Church Street. Gardaí believe that the man knocked on the door of the house, believed nobody was home and walked through the front door where he met the occupants in the hallway. He was wearing a mask and made his get away through the back door of the residence.
