Taxpayers are still no nearer to learning how over €250,000 of public money was approved for the purchase of county manager Tim Caffrey’s house, writes Liam Cosgrove.

The Standards in Public Office Commission launched an investigation last November when it emerged voluntary housing body, the Muiriosa Foundation had been granted state funding to secure the Clondra based house.

A spokesman this week revealed statements from all relevant parties were still being collated.

However Independent Cllr Mae Sexton, who has consistently spoken on the matter, said she was disappointed her views had, so far, not been required.

Cllr Sexton said while she appreciated such investigations do take time, she had been “left in the dark” as to its progress.
