Raiders arrested after getaway car crashes

There was high speed drama on the road between Lanesboro and Ballymahon this morning after two masked raiders crashed their getaway vehicle and were arrested by Gardaí.

The men, one believed to be in possession of a firearm, daringly entered the Post Office in nearby Strokestown, Co Roscommon at approximately 9.30am where they threatened staff and customers and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

They attempted to make their escape in a silver Volvo car in the direction of Longford town, which later crashed on the road between Ballymahon and Lanesboro at Foigha.

The two men, who are both in their 20s, were arrested at the scene and brought to Roscommon Garda Station where they were detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
