New rules have come into play under the building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014, a meeting of Longford Co Council heard last week.
The regulations which came into effect on March 1, 2014 are expected to address the serious irregularities that became synonymous with housing developments over the last 15 years.
“There will be a greater obligation on builders and designers under the new regulations,” Domhnall Mac An Bheatha told the meeting.
He added, “Compliance must be demonstrated and a design cert or commencement Certificate of Undertaking by the builder upon completion of the development is now in place.”
Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD said the new regulations would strengthen “the current arrangements in place for the control of building” by requiring greater accountability in relation to compliance with building regulations in the form of statutory certification of design and construction, lodgement of compliance documentation, mandatory inspections during construction and validation and registration of certificates.
