Expansion and development is the name of the game at Longford’s all new College of Further Education, located at Templemichael College, in the heart of the town.

Enrolments will begin soon for a whole new range of courses that are literally designed to suit every need with many leading to degree courses in Law, Business, Computers and the Arts.

“We are at present developing our range of courses in PLC in order to meet the demands of the local community and the surrounding area,” explained Principal Sorcha Nic Donnacha.

She added, “We are finding that both second level and PLC courses are expanding each year. With the demand for places we are now using the Connolly Barracks campus to facilities some of our courses and we are working with F.I.T to ensure that we are meeting the industry demand in the business area as they are the experts in that area. We have also signed an agreement with Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) which ensures that many of our students progress to 3rd level education.”

Courses at Longford College of Further Education include: Nursing Studies with progression to AIT - BSc Hons in Nursing in General Nursing, St Angela’s BSc General Nursing, Community Health Care with progression to AIT – Applied Social Studies in Social Care, Beauty Therapy with progression to AIT - BA in Spa & Wellness Management; Beauty Tutor Training, Childcare Level 5 with progression to Childcare Level 6 in Templemichael College; Childcare Level 6 with progression to AIT - BA in Early Years Care & Education; Applied Social Studies in Social Care, Art & Design with progression to AIT - BA in Graphic Design, Food Science with progression to AIT - Health Science & Nutrition; BSc in Pharmaceutical Science.

PLC Progression Options include Hairdressing Year 2 with progression to Templemichael College – Senior Trades, City & Guilds Hairdressing, All the Computer Course lead to progression in AIT - Computer Engineering; Computing for Business, Business Students Level 5 with progression in AIT - Higher Certificate in Business, Higher Certificate in Business in office Management, Higher cert in Business with Music and instrument Technology, Higher cert in Business in Equine Studies, Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Business Psychology, Bachelor of Business and Law, Advanced Cert Business Level 6 with progression to AIT - 2nd year of level 7 Business programmes and Motor Technology with progression to AIT - Higher cert in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and Renewable energy, Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics. All courses are certified by the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) and awarded by QQI City and Guilds VRQ 3002 Level 2 in Women’s and Men’s Hairdressing Department of Education; Junior Trades & Senior Trades Certification.
