Longford and Westmeath Educational and Training Board publishes members expenses

Expenses paid to members of the Longford/Westmeath Education and Training Board (ETB) for the past 18 months were made public during last week’s board meeting at Ardscoil Phadraig in Granard.

CEO Christy Duffy pointed out that everything was above board and that as far as he was concerned, payouts for the period had been “very modest”.

A number of members including Cllr Peggy Nolan (FG) and AEO, Mary Farrell indicated their dissatisfaction at the information citing errors in their overall payment calculations. CEO Christy Duffy assured members that the matter would be checked out.

From January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012 the following expenses were paid out the Longford members on the board of the ETB:

Cllr Gerry Brady (FG), €5,348.03; Cllr John Browne (FG), €305.95; Cllr Michael Carrigy (FG), €917.86; Cllr Paul Connell (Ind), €431.16; Willie Dennigan, €838.32; Cllr John Duffy (FG), €296.38; Adrian Farrell, €930.58; Mary Farrell, €2,160.03; Cllr Sean Farrell (FG), €1,176.10; Brian Hyland, €971.25; Cllr James Keogh (Ind), €461.79; Cllr Maura Kilbride-Harkin (FG), €1,074.68; Cllr Victor Kiernan (FG), €1,076.17; Cllr Luie McEntire (FF), €720.11; Alan Mitchell, €243.12; Fr Tom Murray, €216.39; Cllr Peggy Nolan (FG), €2,097.54; Nora O’Farrell, €293.81; Cllr Mae Sexton (Ind), €542.83; Cllr Barney Steele, €622.38; Mary Toher, €863.20.

Expenses for the period January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013 were also published.

Cllr Gerry Brady (FG) received €4,559.05; Cllr John Browne (FG), €883.13; Cllr Michael Carrigy (FG), €463.19; Cllr Paul Connell (Ind), €1,046.69; Willie Dennigan, €985.25; Cllr John Duffy (FG), €0; Adrian Farrell, €1,157.51; Mary Farrell, €2,358.09; Cllr Séan Farrell (FG), €1,090.95; Brian Hyland, €1,250.87; Cllr James Keogh (Ind), €81.04; Cllr Maura Kilbride-Harkin (FG), €1,385.10; Cllr Victor Kiernan (FG), €1,045.13; Cllr Luie McEntire, €621.23; Fr Tom Murray, €287.35; Cllr Peggy Nolan (FG), €1,193.49; Nora O’Farrell, €398.55; Cllr Mae Sexton, €514.75; Cllr Barney Steele (FF), €725.54; Mary Toher, €1,697.64. A total of €21,587.68 was paid out in 2012, while €21,744.78 was allocated in 2013.

In Westmeath, a total of €16,017.48 was paid out in expenses in 2012 while €18,209.02 was allocated in 2013. “I feel that the expenses for Longford/Westmeath is very modest and there are no problems in relation to the prublication of these figures,” Mr Duffy added. “I am delighted that they have been published and that the figures are there for everyone to see.” Two members then indicated that their figures were incorrect and subsequently spoke to the CEO following the meeting which was held at Ardscoil Phadraig in Granard on Monday of last week.
