Longford needs to have a long term plan to deal with the issue of ‘boy racers’ one councillor commented during the final meeting of the Town Council Joint Policing Committee.

Cllr Tony Flaherty urged the Garda representatives to clamp down on so-called ‘boy racers’.

He made the request at the March meeting of the JPC following an incident in which more than 50 car enthusiasts brought a Longford town estate to a standstill.

The incident left homeowners living adjacent to the Longford’s EDI Centre outraged.

The late night disruption saw drivers lift concrete bollards in order to gain access to an open car park.

Cllr Flaherty complimented the Gardaí on their response to the incident on the night, however he concluded by saying: “This is something that we have to look at in the long term.”
