Kilbride facing driving charge

Frank Kilbride

Last Friday’s sitting of Longford District Court heard that Fine Gael councillor Frank Kilbride is facing a charge of failure to give a breath specimen to gardai, writes Liam Cosgrove.

Cllr Kilbride is charged with failure to provide an adequate breath specimen at Longford Garda Station on March 24 earlier this year.

Cllr Kilbride, with an address at Aghakilmore, Ballinalee, Co Longford was not in court when the case was brought before Judge Seamus Hughes at last Friday’s sitting of Longford District Court.

His solicitor Frank Gearty however told the court Cllr Kilbride had been present earlier that morning, something which prompted an inquisitive response from Judge Hughes.

“He is a Fine Gael councillor isn’t he?” noted the judge.

Mr Gearty said he would be seeking a short adjournment before details of the case are heard.

“Judge, I would suggest that January 17 perhaps would suit everybody?” Mr Gearty proposed.

Supt Tom Murphy, for the prosecution, raised no objections to that request ahead of an expected hearing date around six weeks from now.
