Gardaí indicated this morning (Friday) that there were three people involved in the incident, one of whom jumped into the van and assaulted the delivery man, as he attempted to drop off newspapers at Farrell’s store in Ballinalee village.
The Leader understands that a subsequent struggle ensued and the delivery man was left with minor injuries as the assailant - who was wearing a hoodie at the time - drove off in the van towards the direction of Aughnacliffe. “Two other men left the scene in a silver coloured car,” a garda spokesperson added. “We are appealing for witnesses and we are currently carrying out door to door inquiries in relation to the matter, so we would appreciate assistance from members of the public in relation to this incident.”
The van was subsequently discovered two days after the incident in the Arva area of Co Cavan. A full scale investigation has been launched and gardaí are appealing to the public to assist them with their inquiries.
