Gardaí investigating the activities of dissident republicans and the fatal shooting of Northern Ireland prison officer David Black last year, have today (Monday) carried out a number of searches in counties Cavan and Leitrim.

Two men, one aged 51 and the other, 34 have been arrested under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 and are being detained at Garda stations in the Cavan area.

Mr Black, who worked as a prison officer, was shot dead in Lurgan on November 1 2012.

Both men can be detained for up to 72 hours.
