Gardaí investigating vicious Longford assaults



Gardaí in Longford have launched separate investigations into three assaults in the town lst weekend.

The most serious of the assaults took place at 2.15am last Sunday morning when four men targeted a 20-year-old man whom they assaulted, dragged into an alleyway and stole his wallet .

“The man was punched and kicked and set upon by a number of males who then dragged him into an alleyway in the vicinity of the courthouse and took his wallet,” added a garda spokesperson.

It is understood that the man received medical attention at the scene but was not removed to hospital.

At around the same time a 22-year-old man was assaulted in the Annaly car-park in Longford town. Gardaí confirmed he received injuries to his thigh, elbow and fingers, but was not hospitalised.

Earlier, a 20-year-old man was attacked in an assault on Ballymahon Street. He received facial injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Gardaí are keeping an open mind and have appealed to members of the public who may have noticed anything suspicious on the night in question to come forward. They are currently reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify those involved.
