Gardaí in Longford continue to question man as road re-opens following fatal collision in Legan

The section of road in Legan village, Longford where a woman tragically lost her life in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, February 22) has re-opened after Garda Forensic Collision Investigators completed their examination of the scene.

The 55 year old female pedestrian was fatally injured when she was struck by a car at approximately 1.30am.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital at Mullingar.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40’s, was arrested and he continues to be be questioned at Longford Garda Station where he is being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Garda are appealling for witnesses to the fatal collision and they urging the public to contact Granard Garda Station on 043 66 87660, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
