Disappointment has been expressed over the lack of local authority funding allocated to one of Longford’s most successful youth based establishments.
Speaking after Longford County Council held its annual budget meeting last week, Cllr Padraig Loughrey empathised with representatives linked to the Longford Attic Youth group who were unsuccessful in securing funding.
“Providing services and adequate facilities for the youth of the county is something that Longford desperately needs,” he said.
The development plans for the Attic Youth Group are both exciting and ambitious and it deserves support from all quarters. It is my sincere hope that while there is no funding available from the council right now, that position may change during the year.”
A spokesperson for the Attic project declined to comment on Monday, preferring instead to await official confirmation from the council about funding provisions.
Cllr Loughrey, meanwhile, praised the efforts of a group he said continued to carry out superb work in Longford in spite of almost constant external economic constraints.
“It is exactly the kind of project we need to encourage,” he said.
