Four men who appeared at Longford District Court today charged in connection with a drugs find in Longford and Roscommon yesterday, believed to be worth an estimated €2.1m, have been remanded in custody to appear back in Longford next Friday, December 28.

The men, three of whom are Chinese and the other a Malaysian national, appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Dai Zhi You (31), Li Cheng Chen (31), Mao Song Yu (25) and Soon Hock Hoo (33), all of whom are of no fixed abode, were charged with possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis for sale or supply, following the execution of a number of search warrants under Operation Nitrogen on Thursday.

Mr Hock Hoo (33), represented by solicitor Conlith Harlow, was also before the court on the same charges relating to another raid on a premises in Athlone, County Roscommon. Gardaí found €640,000 worth of cannabis plants at the Johnston Demesne, Cornafulla, Athlone, while drugs worth an estimated €1.4m were discovered at Townspark, Richmond Street, Longford on the same day.

Longford District Court heard an application by the State to remand all accused in custody on the grounds that they had no fixed abode, no passports and were flight risks.

Judge Hughes remanded all four in custody until Friday, December 28 next.
