An elderly woman has died after a fire broke out in her home in Barry.

 

A 95-year-old woman has died after a fire broke out in her County Longford home.

The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning in the village of Barry, near Ballymahon.

The woman has been named locally as May Flower.

“It’s a huge tragedy,” local councillor Barney Steele told the Longford Leader. “She was a lovely lady. I would look forward to seeing her and having a chat with her.

“There’s a wide range of grief in the area this morning.”
