Christmas weather outlook

A look at the weather conditions expected over the festive period.

Windy conditions are set to continue throughout today and Christmas eve, with showers of hail, sleet and snow also expected, and there will be icy conditions on the roads in the evenings. Winds of between 50-80km/h are forecast, which could gust as high as 100-130km/h, and temperatures will range from between 4C and 7C during the day to between -1C and 2C at night.

Christmas Day will be chilly, with top temperatures of between just 2C and 6C degrees, although some sunshine is expected. The winds will die down, but there will be severe frost and ice at night, with temperatures dropping as far as 0C and -4C degrees.

St Stephen’s Day will see stormy conditions returning, with severe winds, widespread heavy rain and some spot flooding.
