Volunteer workers who came together to re-thatch a cottage in Ballyleague will feature on RTÉ 1’s ‘Nationwide’ programme this Friday, January 10.

The thatching project was co-ordinated by the EDI Centre in Longford under their Traditional Skills Programme for trainees, and was carried out with the financial support of the Ballyleague Village Renewal and Tidy Towns committee. The re-thatching work was overseen by Master Thatcher Ken Leonard from Killoe.

Work on the thatched roof was completed in just six weeks, thanks to the leadership of local businessman Joe Cribbin and over 30 volunteers from Ballyleague and Lanesboro, Killoe, Longford and other areas throughout the counties of Longford and Roscommon, who came together to lend a hand on the project.

The feature will air on ‘Nationwide’ this Friday, January 10 at 7pm on RTÉ 1.
