Longford County Council is working on plans to formalise the ownership and control of graveyards across the county.
Director of Services John Brannigan made the announcement at a meeting of Longford County Council last week on foot of a request from Cllr Colm Murray.
The Fine Gael councillor said he was growing increasingly tired of the quandaries many local graveyard committees now find themselves in.
“This is something that has annoyed me for about two years now, but I am going to keep on about this,” he angrily remarked.
“The situation has gotten out of hand and I do feel Longford County Council needs to shape up on this.” For more on this story, see this week’s Longford Leader.
