A group of Longford Town FC fans have recorded a new song to celebrate the club winning its first ever Division One title and its promotion to the SSE Airtricity Premier League.

The song, ‘Get Behind De Town’, was written by supporters Sheldon Hannaford and Paul Waghorn, with vocals supplied by lifelong Town fan Pauric Fitzpatrick, aka Alias Fitz. Fans young and old also contributed backing vocals, and Shannonside FM sport reporter Tony Ghee added the obligatory commentary clip.

Everyone came together to record the song at Paul Gurney’s Melview studio in Longford last week, just in time for it to be ready for the club’s celebrations at City Calling Stadium last Friday night.

‘Get Behind De Town’ is available to download now at www.ltfc.bandcamp.com for just €2, which in addition to the finished mix, includes a karaoke version and a 30-second edit which is suitable for use as a ringtone.

All future royalties and any physical sales of the song will go to club funds and it is hoped that the chorus chant will be adopted by the vocal ‘Section O’ supporters who braved some heavy showers during last Friday night’s celebrations.
