Peter Masterson was presented with the Mayoral Award by Cllr Mark Casey for his work on community text alert schemes on June 10 last.

Grateful for the honour, the Dromard native explained, “I am employed as a Development Worker with Longford Community Resources on the Ballinalee Road, Longford. I’m also a worker with the School Completion Programme in Templemichael College.

“I was awarded this from the outgoing Mayor,” Peter continued, extending his sincere thanks and paying tribute to Cllr Casey. “Where the Mayor makes recognition of somebody from the opposite end of the county, it says more about the inclusiveness and reaching out of the Mayor to all the people of the county, which he has done for his entire term of office.”

Peter paid tribute to others involved in setting up the text alert schemes, adding, “Declan Corrigan and Ali McGahern were the other main contributors to the setting up in Dromard.

“This award was as much for them as it was for me.”

Thanking the staff of Longford County Council for an enjoyable evening, Peter also acknowledged others who were involved in the event.

“I’d like to thank all the members of Longford County Council who stayed on after their normal duties to be part of this recognition and celebration,” he said, adding his thanks to the Longford Leader and Shannonside “for all of their coverage of this entire project from its conception, to date”.

“Thanks to my family and friends who made the night in the Council Chamber a very special one,” he concluded.
