Temperatures were soaring in Edgeworthstown this past weekend, as the Wolfe Tones hurling club officially launched their 2014 calendar.
A crowd assembled in Jack’s Corner on Saturday night, hoping, no doubt, to catch a glimpse of the models at the event.
The Wolfe Tones came up with a novel idea to help raise funds for the club: Each month features a topless team member, a club jersey and a hurl, while the sponsors were all involved in the process, with premises, and in some cases, staff members taking a starring role.
“It [the launch] went brilliantly” says club treasurer Marie Maguire. “One brave soul - Mr January - was brave enough to show his muscles on the night!”
Marie commends all involved with the calendar, particularly photographer and designer Gerard Haughey of Cedar Tree Digital Media. “He gave his time, he gave his expertise and he put an awful lot into it” Marie explains. Hoping to continue their calendars on an annual basis, Marie admits that they really enjoyed the process, laughing “some of us more than others!”
Happily, the hilarious calendar was well received on launch night, and sales have been going well.
The Wolfe Tones topless calendar is widely available in Edgeworthstown for just €10, with proceeds going back into the club.
