The guest speaker for the Kiernan Structural Steel (KSSL) 25th anniversary evening was the well known businessman, former Dragon’s Den star and one time Presidential candidate, Sean Gallagher.
In a fitting tribute to the Longford firm, he recently chose to profile them in his new weekly column in the Sunday Independent business section. He said he could readily and happily identify with Frank, Dolores and all the Kiernan family, and he was especially pleased to hear Frank talk about roots, family, and how these had shaped his business.
He said: “When Frank and Dolores set up in business they drew on all those experiences and that’s the grounding that you need to make it as an entrepreneur.”
He spoke passionately about the Kiernan family and the positive impact that KSSL has made on the wider Co Longford community. The seasoned businessman said it is important that we continue to get foreign, direct investment and firms into the country, but in reality they will not invest in small communities in rural Ireland.
He said: “It is the businesses like Kiernan Structural Steel who make up the bulk of the businesses in the country and provide the bulk of the employment. It is these businesses, who have come through the dark times and will help this country forge ahead again.”
