Students from Lanesboro Community College came in for special recognition this week from the Head of the Engineering department at Athlone Institute of Technology as they defeated eight other teams from the midlands, took the silver medal and collected a prestigious award at an Intel sponsored Ideation camp.

Dr Austin Hanley of AIT singled out the students of the college and their teacher Michael Lyons for their innovative work in coming up with a new IT solution to the CAO system for students when he paid special praise to the group after a
two day ideation camp in Athlone.

The Intel camp was organised in association with Roscommon and Athlone Lions clubs as part of a campaign to give students an opportunity to show off their enterprise and entrepreneurship skills.

The Mayor of Athlone Councilor Jim Henson later presented the students with a special cash prize and thanked all the schools for taking part.
