Nineteen changes made in
diocesan appointments

There are changes afoot throughout the diocese, as 19 new appointments were announced earlier this week in a major re-shuffle.

There are changes afoot throughout the diocese, as 19 new appointments were announced earlier this week in a major re-shuffle.

Longford town will see four big changes occur. Fr Padraig Kelliher, CC, and Fr Brendan O’Sullivan, CC, will be posted at Athlone and Carrick-on-Shannon respectively. Fr Michael McGrath, CC, will return to Longford from Carrick-on-Shannon, and the town will also welcome Fr Joseph Okere, Missionary Society of St Paul of Nigeria.

Fr Michael Bannon, PP, Edgeworthstown, will be PP of Gowna and Mullinalaghta, replacing Fr PJ Fitzpatrick, who will become CC at Mount Temple, Moate. Fr Pat Kiernan, CC, Mount Temple, Moate will be the new PP in Edgeworthstown.

Presently the Administrator in Killashee, Fr Nigel Charles will take up the same position in Rathowen and Streete, to be replaced by Fr Patsy McDermott, current CC in Ballinamuck.

Fr Gerry Brady, PP, Newtowncashel, will be the new PP in Clonmacnois, while Fr Merlyn Kenny, CC, Carrick-on-Shannon, will take over as PP in Newtowncashel. Fr Peter Burke, PP, Drumshanbo will swap Parishes with Fr Frankie Murray, PP, Ferbane.

Administrator in Athlone, Fr Liam Murray will take the position of PP in Ballymahon, while the newly-ordained Fr Seamus O’Rourke will serve as a CC in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Fr Joe McGrath, Resident Priest in Streete, will take up the same position in Ballinamuck.

Newtownforbes native Fr Declan Shannon, CC, Athlone, will be made Administrator of the Parish.

The changes will also see the retirement of Monsignor Patrick Earley, PP Rathowen, and Fr Francis O’Hanlon, PP Clonmacnois.
