A search for a modern-day Cinderella has become an online hit, after a Longford man took to social media to return a lost shoe.

Aaron Flaherty, who lives in Longford town, was out in Carrick-on-Shannon at the weekend for his aunt’s birthday.

After finding a shoe, he decided to search for its owner and its match, but he didn’t expect the reaction he would get, especially after his friends made contact with a national media outlet.

“My uncle put up the photo and I shared it from him first,” Aaron explained, adding that he “didn’t expect half of the likes and shares. Aaron’s ‘search’ for the woman who lost her shoe was a huge hit on Her.ie, who turned the saga into a modern-day Cinderella story.

Even though he was surprised, Aaron was delighted with the attention.

“I’m well up for the laugh and something like this wouldn’t phase me at all so I think it’s great craic.”

Though he hasn’t had any luck in his sole-searching, Aaron isn’t too distraught, laughing, “to be honest, I just want to give the shoe back!”
