10 year sentence for falsely imprisoning woman in Longford car park

A man was sentenced to 10 years in jail for falsely imprisoning a Longford businesswoman following a hearing at Longford Circuit Court last week.

A man was sentenced to 10 years in jail for falsely imprisoning a Longford businesswoman following a hearing at Longford Circuit Court last week.

Janis Zarans, 15 Weaver’s Hall, Market Square, Longford, appeared before Judge Keenan Johnson charged with the false imprisonment of Sabrina Cence (47) at Heaton’s car park, Townspark, Longford, on October 29, 2014.

He was also further convicted of unlawfully seizing a car; robbery and dangerous driving on the same date.

In her Victim Impact Statement, the victim described the devastating effect the incident had on her life.

“I am no longer able to work and haven’t done so since the incident,” she stated.

“Since that day, my life has drastically changed and I have lost everything and everyone around me.

“I cannot sleep and suffer from anxiety and panic attacks; I cannot go to work anymore and feel unable to go outside because of the panic attacks.”
