Gardai hunt gang behind aggravated Edgeworthstown burglary

Gardaí are on the hunt for a gang of men who carried out an aggravated burglary at a house in Edgeworthstown over the weekend.

Three men broke into a house along the Chapel Lane area of Edgeworthstown shortly after midday on Sunday where a man was assaulted.

It’s understood the gang locked the victim in a toilet before stealing a number of items from the property.

The victim later managed to free himself and alert gardai.

He was subsequently brought to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where he was treated for minor injuries.

In a follow-up operation detectives managed to recover some items and arrested a 44-year-old man in the Edgeworthstown area in connection with the incident.

He is currently detained at Granard Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
