Voters are this afternoon starting to fill polling booths across the county as this year’s local, European and by-elections finally get underway.
At around midday turnout percentages in and around Longford town stood at 15 per cent, slightly higher than those in more rural areas.
In Legan, figures currently stand at 12 per cent with those in Moyne so far returning a more modest 7 per cent turnout.
The counting of votes in the local and by-elections will begin tomorrow morning with counting in the European Parliament election getting off the ground on Sunday.
