Local election update: Fine Gael’s Peggy Nolan and Fianna Fáil’s Seamus Butler elected in Longford Electoral Area
Following the distribution of votes of Fine Gael’s Yvonne Ní Mhurchú, Fine Gael’s Peggy Nolan (909) and Fianna Fáil’s Seamus Butler (856) have exceeded the quota and have been elected in the Longford Electoral Area, joining John Browne (FG) and Gerry Warnock (Ind).
With a quota of 816 votes, Fianna Fáil’s Michael Connellan (643) has resigned himself to the fact that he may not claim one of the last two seats on offer, with his party colleague Padraig Loughrey (715) and Independent Mae Sexton (708) fancied to take the seats.
The results of the sixth count are as follows:
BUTLER Seamus (Fianna Fáil) (+82) 856 (elected)
CONNELLAN Michael (Fianna Fáil) (+51) 643
LOUGHREY Padraig (Fianna Fáil) (+85) 715
NOLAN Peggy (Fine Gael) (+164) 909 (elected)
SEXTON Mae (Independent) (+81) 708.
Peggy Nolan’s surplus of 93 votes is now being distributed. To keep up to date with the count as it happens, visit our live blog on www.longfordleader.ie/liveevents, or find us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/longfordleader) or Twitter (@Longford_Leader).
