Gardaí in Longford are appealing to the public for assistance after a burglary at the St Mel’s Cathedral presbytery in the early hours of last Tuesday morning.

Sources say that a “substantial” amount of cash was taken in the raid, which occurred between the hours of 3am and 6am on March 11 last.

Other property was also taken, including parish envelopes which investigating gardaí later discovered discarded along the roadside in the parish of Killoe.

Gardaí are looking for a male who was captured on CCTV around the time of the incident and are appealing to anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious around St Mel’s Cathedral or in Killoe last Tuesday morning, to come forward and help with their investigations. “A substantial amount of cash was taken in this burglary,” a garda spokesperson added. “Some property was recovered on the night - discarded out the country in the Killoe direction - and at this stage we would be appealing to the public to help us with our investigations.”
