Happy Left-Handers’ Day! Today, August 13, those who write with their left hand celebrate being a “lefty”.
Only about 10 percent of the population write with their left hand, and though it may be an annoyance when using spiral notebooks or ink, it is a trait that has always been associated with intelligence and creativity.
Famous “lefties” also celebrating today include Mozart, Jimi Hendrix, Barack Obama and Justin Bieber.
To celebrate Left-Handers’ Day, 11850, Ireland’s original directory enquiry service, put together a list of advantages to being a lefty. According to the list, lefties have an easier time writing in Hebrew, and are faster typers. Being a lefty also makes some things easier, including multi-tasking and, bizarrely, seeing underwater!
