Local woman Jillian McNulty, one of the country’s high profile Cystic Fibrosis sufferers and campaigners, continues her fundraising this Friday (August 16) with a great afternoon’s entertainment planned for the Courtyard Café in Longford town.
The Longford woman is always keen to raise the profile of CF sufferers and recently undertook a charity cycle from Carrick on Shannon to St Vincent’s Hopsital and raised €6,000 for the CF Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin. The unit is one of the most deserving recipients of charity funding in the country and it is great to see Jillian focus on a new challenge.
One of the highlights will be an auction and amongst the items donated for auction are signed Dublin and Mayo GAA jerseys and also a signed jersey from rugby legend, Ronan O’Gara.
The action will get underway from 2pm and the proceedings are supported by Derek and Sheila Fitzgerald of the Courtyard Cafe, who are kindly hosting a BBQ on the day. Also all this week at the Courtyard, there is a wonderful biscuit cake on display and you might well win the cake if you guess the correct weight. Proceeds from the ‘guess the cake weight’ challenge go to the fundraiser.
Local auctioneer , Fintan McGill of Sherry Fitzgerald McGill will take centrestage for the auction whilst Joe Flaherty from the Longford Leader, is the MC for the afternoon. Another highlight will be a leg shave with six hardy local bucks volunteering to undergo what they have been assured is a “painless procedure”.
All proceeds from the day are going to the CF Unit at St Vincent’s, where Jillian attends for treatment and all support on the day will be gratefully appreciated. The auction will start at approx 5pm with the leg shave scheduled from 6pm.
