During a recent meeting of the Granard/Drumlish Local Area Committee, Cllr Micheal Carrigy (FG) addressed the safety issues that have arisen for motorists at the Piper’s Cross outside Granard.

“It is extremely dangerous for cars coming to the junction from both the Ballymore and Purth roads,” the local area representative fumed. “I would ask Longford County Council to apply to the Department for a Low Cost Safety Scheme to improve the view for motorists at that junction.”

Engineers present at the meeting agreed with Cllr Carrigy’s proposals, and pointed out that it was clear that “surface dressing works” were necessary along the road from Piper’s Cross to the main Ballinalee/Granard Road, also.

The works are expected to take place later this year, with further works already in the pipeline for the Coolarty/Kilcourcey Road.
