The Government’s announcement to reduce the number of unfinished housing estates deemed suitable for property tax waivers has been called into question by local TD Robert Troy.

The Fianna Fáil and Longford Westmeath TD said Environment Minister Phil Hogan needed to explain the changes in much greater detail.

“Are people really expected to believe that hundreds of unfinished developments and ghost estates have been fixed and completed over the past 12 months?” he asked. “Are people expected to believe that of the 55 estates in Longford exempt from the household charge last year, 41 of them have now been ‘fixed’ and that only 3 remain unfinished in Longford Town?”
