Gardai are this week attempting to establish a motive behind a shooting incident at a house on the outskirts of Longford town on Sunday evening.
Two shots were fired at the outer perimeters of the two storey building which is located just off the town’s busy main Dublin Road at around 11:30pm.
The scene was later cordoned off and a thorough search of the area was carried out by investigating officers.
No one was injured during the incident and at the time of going to press on Tuesday afternoon, gardai had yet to make any arrests into the investigation.
It’s understood up to eight people were inside the house at the timeat the time of the attack on the house.
A Garda spokesman declined to be drawn on the possibility the incident maybe Traveller related, saying gardai were, for the moment, keeping an “open mind” on the events of Sunday evening.
Contrary to rumours locally, Gardai said they are definitely not linking the disturbance to a row which broke out on the town’s Main Street during the Christmas holiday period.
Instead, gardai have issued an appeal for motorists who may have been travelling in the Shroid area along the Dublin Road at around 11:30pm on Sunday evening and noticed anything untoward to come contact them.
